A Simple Life - Winter Sheet (Free)
A downloadable game
Important note: This is a free printable Winter game sheet for the upcoming campaign mode of my game A Simple Life. Download the full rulebook here (itch) or here (BGG)
Winter season has arrived, and the first flakes of snow have fallen in the valley!
I am releasing the WINTER sheet for FREE! Now everyone can join in the winter festivities and experience the snowy charm of the valley. This sheet includes the v1.4 updates, which I’ll outline below. Please note that this sheet is part of the campaign and may be updated in the final version or the full release of the campaign mode.
So what's in this sheet?
In addition to the cozy, snowy aesthetic of the Valley, this sheet introduces several gameplay changes.
FARM
Crops don’t grow in Winter, so it’s time to focus on chopping trees to gather wood for your farm.
Farm: Spend 1 die to write its value in one of the boxes, following these rules: - Start with Box A and write the die value there. - Only after Box A is filled can you write in Box B, but the value in Box B must be equal to or less than the value in Box A. Each completed tree grants you 2 wood.
Wood: Wood is new resource. In Winter, you’ll spend it to light your fireplace, stay warm, and get a good night’s sleep.
Fireplace: At the end of each day, you must use wood from your inventory to light the fireplace. If you choose not to, or cannot, you’ll roll 1 fewer die the next day due to an uncomfortable night’s sleep!
TOWN
Eldon is back in town and reopened his Saloon for the Winter. Lily and Miles are regular patrons, while Nora, Harold, and Belle prefer to stay warm and cozy at home.
Buying drinks: Spend 1 action point to visit the Saloon and spend any number of coins to add a checkmark for each coin spent. Same as before, reaching a full heart will get you a heart and a gift from the townsfolk.
Visiting the residence: As in the base game sheet, you spend 1 action to give a flower to any of the townsfolk to add a checkmark. However, this Winter, they have a preference for specific flowers from different seasons.
Shop: The main changes here include:
- Wood is now available for both buying and selling at 1 coin each.
- Flowers of any kind now sell for 1 coin each, instead of 2 for 1 coin, due to their increased rarity in Winter.
MORE fish to catch and artifacts to collect!
DIFFERENT GOALS!
So, you may be wondering by now which features version 1.4 introduced. Let’s go through them:
- New Icons: These icons represent "any"—any crop, flower, artifact, or fish.
- New Crops: Carrot for Spring, Tomato for Summer, Corn for Fall.
- New Flowers: Blueflower for Spring, Leafbloom for Summer, Hallowsprout (made up names, btw)
- Gem: A lesser version of the diamond, worth 3 points during scoring.
- Write instruction : A new mechanic allowing you to write down the value of a die..
- Treasure chest: In the Lake, if you fail, you can now choose a consolation reward.
- Monster Scoring Balance: Earn 3 points for each slain monster (previously 2), lose 2 points for each failure (same as before).
- Pocket Mine: A small-scale version of the Mines for early-game mining. Roll a die, cross out the result, and gain the corresponding icon. If the icon is already crossed, move to the next lower-valued column.
The Festival The winter sheet comes with a bonus festival; Secret Gift Exchange. In this festival you get to randomly draw townsfolk you'll have to give a gift to, and if you do participate you will also receive a gift from random townsfolk. It aims to capture the season of giving.
What is a Festival? Festivals is a mini expansion that adds short term goal to your game and gives bonus rewards, and additional score if you participate. The expansion will have a set of festival cards for each season, and from these cards you'll draw one at the start of your game session.
New Crops With the release of the Winter sheet, it is revealed that new crops will be available for each season; Carrot for Spring, Tomato for Summer, Corn for Fall - except in Winter since crops don't grow during winter in the game.
Each crop has its own effects when consumed, just like the carrot in the earlier version of the game.
- Carrot : Reroll any number of rolled dice; Choose any number of dice you just rolled, and roll it again. You must accept the new result or spend another carrot to reroll again.
- Tomato : Flip any one of the rolled dice; Choose one die you just rolled, and flip it to it's opposite side, e.g. you rolled a SIX, you can physically flip the die to the other side which is a ONE.
- Corn : Add or subtract 1 to the result of one of the rolled dice; Choose one die you just rolled, increase its value by one or reduce its value by 1, e.g. You rolled a THREE, you can spend 1 corn to make it a result of TWO or FOUR.
With these, you'll have more options for dice mitigation!
And that’s it! I hope you enjoy playing this during the Winter season. If you do, I’d greatly appreciate any feedback, as this sheet is still subject to change for the final release of the campaign mode, which will feature sheets for all seasons.
Thank YOU!
- Clint
